Thoughts and actions pioneer the future
In this corner, every month, the executives of the UNIVA Group share messages.
Have you ever imagined yourself as an executive?
When you research the qualities and abilities required of executives, you come across words like “vision building skills,” “leadership,” “decision-making ability,” “communication skills,” “insight,” “execution ability,” and “human qualities.” However, these are not qualities needed only by executives. They are also qualities and abilities we all need in our daily work.
So, what actually sets people who serve as executives?
In the business companies where I am involved as a director, there are two presidents in their 40s. Watching them, while their personalities and strengths differ, there is one thing they commonly make me think: "As expected."
Deeper insight than anyone else
They possess overwhelming knowledge and insight into the business areas they handle. Not only do they gather information available from the media, but they also collect primary information directly from stakeholders and anticipate what lies beyond. Based on strong interest and passion, they are constantly updating themselves.
Vision and determination
In management, a vision is indispensable, but what they envision is not a single completed picture; rather, it's a continuously unfolding image of the future. Moreover, they don't just talk about it; they persistently continue their tireless efforts every day to realize it. They not only draw up a vision but also have the tenacity to keep taking steps persistently until it is achieved.
Determination and Decision
As the final decision-maker, they take responsibility for their own judgments. This is different from acting unilaterally. They make decisions quickly with a sense of urgency, incorporating as much information and as many opinions as possible, and with the determination to take on the risk of failure themselves.
Awareness and sincerity as a business leader
While driving the business with strong leadership, there is a high level of awareness and sincerity in making an effort to personally learn and acquire foundational business knowledge such as financial accounting, human resources and labor, and compliance, and in striving to always conduct oneself in a manner befitting a business leader.
There are many other wonderful points to mention, but in a word, "The president works harder than anyone else." From the front lines to management, they are full of vitality and proactive energy. There is no president who just sits in the president's office and gives orders to employees. They think about the company more than anyone else and take the initiative more than anyone else, and those around them follow their lead.
What do you think?
Can you envision yourself as an "executive" as an extension of your own career?
At the UNIVA Group, there are no presidents who inherit the position hereditarily. It is not automatically the case that the person who wins the competition with his peers will become the president. What is required is an overwhelming "passion" and "action".
It is not too late, even now. Together with our NAKAMA, we challenge ourselves toward co-creating new value, and we sincerely look forward to talented individuals who will become the leaders responsible for the future of the UNIVA Group.
